Photos are usually the first thing a buyer judges, and the rules differ across marketplaces. This workflow shows how to prepare one clean base image and then export versions for Etsy, eBay and Walmart Marketplace, using an AI background tool such as Pixelcut (affiliate link). For a deeper look at Amazon and Etsy, see our Pixelcut product photos guide.

What Pixelcut says it offers

From Pixelcut’s public pages, features relevant to sellers include background removal, changing backgrounds to a solid color or generated scene, batch editing, upscaling, resizing and shadows. We cannot say how well they work on your products, so test with a few real items and check current pricing and limits on Pixelcut’s site. Step 1: Shoot a good original

An AI tool cannot rescue every photo. Use soft, even light, a plain surface and a sharp, fully visible product. Shoot a little wider than you need and keep the camera level. Take several angles: front, back, detail, scale reference and packaging if relevant.

Step 2: Create a clean cutout

Remove the background, then zoom in on edges. Check thin straps, transparent materials, jewelry chains, fur, mesh and reflective surfaces. If the edge looks wrong, retouch or reshoot rather than publishing a flawed cutout. Save a transparent PNG as your master file.

Step 3: Export per marketplace

Walmart

Walmart’s Marketplace image guidelines describe a seamless white background (RGB 255, 255, 255) for the main image in most cases, no watermarks, text overlays or borders, and high-resolution square images. Some Walmart pages list 2200 by 2200 pixels as recommended and 1500 by 1500 as the zoom minimum, but older documents list other figures. Confirm on the current page. Our Walmart Listing Quality checklist covers how images fit into the broader score.

Etsy

Etsy’s help pages emphasize photos of the actual item buyers will receive, large images and a clear first photo. A tool-edited background is fine only if the item itself remains accurate. Do not substitute a render for the real item. Confirm the current rules on Etsy’s image requirement pages, and see Etsy listing SEO with AI for the text side.

eBay

eBay publishes its own photo standards, which change by category and site. Read the current standards in Seller Centre before editing, and keep the photo representative of the item you ship, especially for used goods where condition matters. See Etsy vs eBay vs Walmart listing requirements for how the platforms compare.

Step 4: Name files and write alt text

Use descriptive file names (for example [brand]-[product]-front.jpg) and write alt text for your own website or product pages. Our guide to AI alt text for ecommerce images explains how.

Step 5: Quality check before upload

A small pilot before you commit

Before editing a whole catalog, pick five products that cover your hardest cases: something shiny, something with fine edges, something dark, something light-colored and something large. Run them through the full workflow and compare the results at thumbnail size and at full zoom. Note how many needed manual fixes and how long each took. If the tool saves time on easy items but struggles on your difficult ones, you can use it selectively. Record the results in a simple table with placeholder labels such as [PRODUCT A] until you fill in your own data, and revisit the decision when the tool or the marketplace rules change.

Step 6: Keep a record

Save the master file and a log of which edits you applied to which listings. If a platform flags an image, you can find and fix it quickly.

Compare Pixelcut and Canva, review the Etsy hub, eBay hub and Walmart hub, and always defer to the official marketplace pages.

FAQ

Can I use one photo for Etsy, eBay and Walmart?

You can start from one base image, but each marketplace has its own rules for backgrounds, size and content. Export a version per marketplace and check each against the platform's current image guidelines.

Is it okay to replace the background of a product photo with AI?

It depends on the platform and the image. Walmart's guidelines describe a white main image, while Etsy expects photos of the actual item. Editing a background is different from changing how the item looks. Never alter the product itself or misrepresent it.

Does Pixelcut cost money?

Pricing and free allowances change, so check current pricing on Pixelcut's own site. We do not state prices here.

Have you tested Pixelcut?

No. This guide is based on Pixelcut's public pages and the marketplaces' public help pages, last checked October 16, 2026. Try the tool on a few of your own products before relying on it.
