Amazon Listing Image Requirements (US): Confirmed Official Rules, Conflicts and Unknowns
Amazon US listing image rules recorded from official pages, each with source and check date 2026-10-18. The three official-source conflicts are shown side by side; unknowns are marked.
Disclosure: This page contains no tracked affiliate links. We have not tested any of this on a live Amazon account. Every rule below comes from the official Amazon pages named in the Source column, as recorded in our data layer on 2026-10-18, for the US marketplace only. Other marketplaces: unknown. Amazon changes its rules; confirm in Seller Central before you upload. See our full disclosure and methodology.
This is a reference for sellers who prepare product photos for Amazon. It lists only the rules our data marks as confirmed from an official source, shows where official sources disagree, and says plainly what we could not find. It is not a complete rulebook. For the title and bullet side see the title and bullet compliance checklist; for tools that help with backgrounds see product photos with Pixelcut.

The older Listings Starter Guide (Amazon PDF) (checked 2026-10-18) also says at least 500 x 500 pixels (1,000 x 1,000 for high-quality listings) and a plain white background. Its square-pixel wording differs from the longest-side wording above; see the conflicts below.

Where official sources conflict
Three conflicts exist across our Amazon data. We do not decide which source is right. If your image sits between the two values, check the current page in Seller Central.
| Topic | Source A | Source B |
|---|---|---|
| Main image share of frame | 85% of the image (Seller Central forum: reply by Amazon staff (Glenn_Amazon)) | At least 80% of the image area (Listings Starter Guide (Amazon PDF)) |
| Minimum pixels | 500 to 10,000 pixels on the longest side (Seller Central forum: Product Image Requirements (Amazon post)) | At least 500 x 500 pixels (Listings Starter Guide (Amazon PDF)) |
| Brand Story logo minimum size | 315 x 145 px (A+ Brand Story guide (Amazon PDF); SP-API: Brand Story Modules) | 362 x 453 (“Brand Story logo”, SP-API: A+ Content Troubleshooting) |
All three conflicts were checked on 2026-10-18. The Brand Story row is explained in our A+ and Brand Story checklist.

We do not fill these gaps with third-party articles. If you need them, read the current Seller Central help pages.

FAQ
What pixel size do Amazon listing images need?
Amazon's sources disagree on the minimum. A Seller Central forum post says 500 to 10,000 pixels on the longest side; the Listings Starter Guide says at least 500 x 500 pixels. We do not pick one. Both agree that larger than 1,000 pixels on the longest side is better for zoom.
How much of the main image should the product fill?
Two official sources differ: an Amazon staff reply says the product is shown as 85% of the image, and the Listings Starter Guide says at least 80% of the image area. We show both and do not resolve them.
What is the maximum file size or the required aspect ratio?
Unknown. Neither is stated on any official page we could read, so we do not give a number.
Do these rules cover non-main images and category-specific rules?
No. Non-main image rules and category-specific main-image rules (apparel, jewelry, multipacks and so on) are on pages we could not read, so they are unknown here.
